Our mission is rooted in a legacy of excellence and innovation, training physicians to become leaders in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of health conditions arising from workplace and environmental exposures

We are committed to advancing residents’ clinical expertise, scientific knowledge, and leadership skills to promote safe, healthy, and sustainable work and community environments.

A Legacy of Pioneer in Occupational Medicine

Established in 1947, the University of Cincinnati offers the oldest Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency Program in the United States, with more than 78 years of continuous training.
  • The program has successfully prepared over 250 board-eligible occupational and environmental medicine physicians and educated thousands more through medical school courses, clinical rotations, and continuing education.
  • This ACGME-accredited residency program is committed to excellence in education, guided by the core competencies and milestone-based progression.
  • Resident performance is evaluated by multiple faculty and clinical preceptors, ensuring comprehensive, balanced assessments and regular constructive feedback to foster continuous professional growth.

Training Program Highlights:

Our residents rotate through a diverse array of clinical and public health settings, gaining broad, hands-on experience in occupational and environmental medicine.
  • Graduates complete a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Occupational Health and are fully eligible for board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
  • The program also provides protected academic time for didactics, journal clubs, and participation in professional conferences, reflecting our commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • With a 100% board pass rate, our residency demonstrates a strong tradition of academic excellence and resident success.
  • The program places strong emphasis on professionalism, diversity, accountability, and resident well-being.
