We collaborate with organizations across the community, state and nation to identify and advance rural and urban healthcare. These partnerships include community education programs that address health needs specific to the counties we serve. We also join existing healthcare programs to offer continuing education and resources to support healthcare providers in our community. Community partnerships focus on health topics such as behavioral and mental health, diabetes, health promotion and wellness, and older adults and aging.
We support the expansion of the rural and urban underserved healthcare workforce through programs that expose students to health care careers. These programs offer high school and adult learners the opportunity for experiential learning in a variety of health care settings. Our partners in healthcare workforce efforts include multiple local high schools, vocational schools and colleges.
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) at University of Cincinnati, formally HEALTH-UC, serves Region VI of the Ohio Statewide AHEC Program. Our service area includes Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland and Warren counties. Funding for the UC AHEC comes from the Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) Health Resources and Services Administration of the US Department of Health and Human Services HHS) and the State of Ohio General Revenue Fund.
The AHEC Program is a multi-disciplinary, interprofessional program that seeks to enhance primary and preventive healthcare in our rural and urban communities.
