The University of Cincinnati Integrated Interventional Radiology (IR) residency participates in the National Resident Match Program (NRMP). We accept applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Therefore, you will need to apply through your medical school or through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
In general, you will need to supply the following items:
Although not required, we highly recommend interested applicants to apply for preliminary surgery internship at University of the Cincinnati Medical Center. We have worked closely with our surgical colleagues to create a preliminary surgical internship curriculum which will best prepare residents for the Integrated IR residency.
International Medical Graduates (IMG) interested in applying to our program must apply through ERAS. We do not accept paper or email applications. The University of Cincinnati Medical Center sponsors J-1 visas only.
Individuals must have graduated from medical school within the past five years and completed one year of preliminary training in a US-accredited program recognized by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
IMGs must possess a valid ECFMG certificate which requires passing all components of the USMLE exam as well as other examinations as required by the ECFMG. The ECFMG certificate must be valid at the start of residency or the resident forfeits his/her position in the program.
In addition to the documents listed above, IMGs must also include in their application:
The Department of Radiology does accept DO graduates into the program. USMLE testing is highly recommended; however, COMLEX scores are accepted.
Successful completion of USMLE Step 2 is required prior to the end of the interview season.
Successful completion of USMLE/COMLEX Step 3 is required prior to the start of the PGY-3 year.
Interviews
Candidates who are selected for a personal interview will be contacted. Our interviews will be held entirely in a virtual format, in line with national recommendations.
During the interview, we aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of your qualifications, interests, and goals, while also providing you with an opportunity to learn more about our program. You will have ample time to speak with our residents about their experiences, and we encourage you to come prepared with any questions you may have. Our goal is to create an informative and interactive interview experience that helps us identify the best candidates for our program.
