The University of Cincinnati offers you authentic primary care exposure through the Long Block design. To build on this, the Primary Care Pathway was created to further enhance your primary care experience during residency.
As part of the Primary Care Pathway, you’ll have exclusive access to certain electives, including the Advanced Primary Care Elective, which provides additional training in billing and precepting for senior residents, and the Primary Care Elective for PGY-1s, giving you early experience in various clinics and opportunities to shadow and lead clinic sessions.
You’ll also have first choice for highly sought-after electives that are relevant to primary care, including Dermatology, Sports Medicine, Psychiatry, and more.
You’ll participate in Multidisciplinary Primary Care didactics, where non-internal medicine specialists teach topics essential to primary care.
You’ll engage in a Billing and Coding curriculum and have the opportunity to rotate through a second clinic during Long Block—options include the VA, private practice, and others.
You’ll be paired with one or more primary care faculty mentors who will guide you throughout your residency.
You’ll receive personalized guidance on your job search, contract negotiation, and understanding the different types of outpatient practices (academic, private, FQHC, etc.), along with workshops to support your transition to practice.
You’ll complete a longitudinal scholarly or quality improvement project focused on outpatient innovation.
You’ll also have the opportunity to rotate with community clinics, FQHCs, the Department of Health, or mobile outreach units, deepening your connection with the community you serve.
