The Yoga Studies Certificate focuses on the history, theory, philosophy, and practice of yoga and how it can benefit your everyday life. The principles gained from the certificate will give you an understanding of the benefits yoga can have when integrated into other professional settings, such as exercise science, physical or occupational therapy, social work, mental health counseling, psychology, education, and more. This interdisciplinary certificate consists of coursework from the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, the College of Medicine, and the College of Arts & Sciences. Students will complete 8 credits of core coursework, 4 credits of applied Yoga Studies coursework, and 6 credits of electives for a total of 18 credit hours.

Jules is a committed yoga teacher and lifelong student, holding credentials as a 200eRYT, 500RYT, and an additional 400+CYT, as well as recognition as a Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist®. She is passionate about guiding individuals to develop a deeper awareness of how their bodies move and function. Her classes focus on intentional movement, incorporating strength-building, alignment refinement, and mobility enhancement to help students broaden their range of motion and improve overall well-being.
Through her classes, workshops, and trainings, Jules fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, welcoming practitioners of all levels. She emphasizes the importance of modifications, creating a safe space for exploration, growth, and self-discovery. With her playful and approachable teaching style, Jules encourages students to find joy in their practice while integrating the principles of yoga into their daily lives.
Anna Ferguson has been studying and teaching yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices for over twenty years. She is the co-creator of World Peace Yoga, a school of yoga in the heart of Clifton on Ludlow Avenue. World Peace Yoga works in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati to offer courses in yoga and meditation.
On her quest to inspire individuals to manifest the most exquisite version of themselves, she wrote, World Peace Yoga: Yoga for People Who Breathe. In her book, readers learn tools for creating inner peace through a variety of self-care practices, including breathing, meditation, and posture techniques, as well as plant-sourced living.
Anna is the director of World Peace Yoga’s Personal Spiritual Growth and Yoga Teacher Training programs and is passionate about building community, compassionate living, and her wonderful son Noah. Connect with her on Instagram and Facebook.
Dara O’Loughlin, Advanced Certified CYT900+, is a focused, intentional, and spirited teacher who uses her creativity and compassion to connect and inspire. She is interested in making yoga practice accessible to all, building a supportive community, and creating a space that helps foster peace and balance for each of us. With thousands of hours of experience instructing yoga classes and yoga teacher trainings, Dara thrives when she is empowering others.
Leslie Sikes is a Cincinnati yoga instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching in studio, institutional, and private settings. She teaches yoga studies for The University of Cincinnati. Her yoga courses are offered to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty at UC. She was the driving force behind the creation of the UC yoga studies certificate. She also teaches yoga for the UC men’s basketball, men’s football, men’s baseball and women’s volleyball teams.
Leslie’s yoga training consists of 200 YTT in Ashtanga Yoga, 300 YTT in Rocket Yoga and certifications in Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Mindfulness. She completed her 500 YTT at Modo Yoga Nicaragua and currently teaches hot yoga and workshops for Embra Yoga Cincinnati. Leslie also leads international yoga retreats with The Travel Yogi. She has led retreats in destinations such as The Galapagos, Panama, Africa, and soon will hold retreats in Iceland and Patagonia.
When it comes to teaching, Leslie’s goal is to help students use yoga to stay connected both spiritually and physically on and off their mats. She loves music and is constantly creating new music playlists to match her teachings. Leslie currently lives in Clifton with her husband and two girls, Lila and Rose.

To become a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) through the University of Cincinnati, you must complete all requirements for the Yoga Studies Certificate (see below), including HFL 2071 and HFL 2072 as your electives.
Please note that any courses you took within the certificate curriculum prior to applying for the certificate will count toward completion.
Complete all requirements for the Yoga Studies Certificate, including HFL 2071: Yoga Teacher Training I and HFL 2072: Yoga Teacher Training II
Once all above requirements have been satisfied, you will fill out the Certificate Completion form to be awarded and sent your official certification.

This is the first course in a two-course series that prepares students to become Yoga instructors. In this course, you learn the foundations of becoming a yoga teacher, including yoga posture alignment, assists, props, and modifications as well as posture sequencing and anatomy as it relates to yoga. You learn and practice teach various postures, breathing techniques, and meditation. This course serves as a pre-requisite for Yoga Teacher Training II, which will be offered Fall 2023. Both Yoga Teacher Training I and Yoga Teacher Training II must be taken to complete the Yoga Teacher Training at UC.
