The Ohio State University Collaboration

The Freeman Center has partnered with the Ohio State University to embark on research initiatives. Areas of interest include looking at patient outcomes, the primary care/psychiatry collaborative care model, RN care management for the IDD population. The Freeman Center is grateful for this collaboration led by Brittany Hand, PhD, OTR/L, Assistant Professor for the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the Ohio State University.

Medical School Partner for the National Curriculum Initiative in Developmental Medicine (NCIDM)

Dr Wang, Principal Investigator, developed and implemented meaningful curriculum enhancements in the area of intellectual and developmental disabilities in multiple courses across various levels of training at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (February 2020-July 2021). Specific enhancements include the following: Designed and implemented a virtual clinical skills experience for second year students with individuals with Down Syndrome. Also developed a learning community case for second year students featuring a patient with autism and intellectual disability. The learning community session was co-facilitated by parents of individuals with IDD. The clinical skills experience and learning community cases were the first of their kind to feature an individual with IDD at UCCOM.

Medicaid Technical Assistance and Policy Program (MedTAPP)

Dr Wang and Dr Keeton received a MedTAPP grant in July 2021 to create a virtual simulation to train physicians in caring for individuals with IDD and being attentive to the social determinants of health unique to this population.
